We the undersigned Petitioners call upon Leon County and the City of Tallahassee commissioners to address the following grievances in respect to Lake Munson a class III water body with a long term history of environmental impairment and resident health problems. We recognize unbridled growth throughout Leon County and the City of Tallahassee  without addressing impact to water quality, Natural water features, and quality of life particularly in the south side of Tallahassee. We residents of Leon County and the City of Tallahassee are concerned for our environment and welfare of citizens now and for future generations.

1.  We ask for the failed attempts of draw downs be discontinued and Leon County come up with a plan to restore Lake Munson. This to include finding a disposal site for muck which could not be recycled.

2.  We ask that the county follow years of reports and scientific recommendations to dredge nutrient rich  and toxic muck from the sandy lake bottom

3.  We ask that the county put out request for information from at least 4 nationally recognized dredging companies using the latest techniques to protect the environment while restoring Lake Munson to a class III water body.

4.  We ask that the restoration of natural water bodies take precedent over rampant development by reviewing permit processes looking at impact to water management and down stream impacts first.

5.  We ask that current ordinances protecting trees and natural features be enforced and those developers in non compliance face appropriate fines or loss of permit. We ask that this information be made transparent to the public by quarterly report.

6.  We ask that Leon county commissioners direct staff to seek out every grant and funding opportunity available to accomplish restoration and protection of water bodies and other natural features

7.  We ask that the commissioners of Leon County and City of Tallahassee establish a task force on pollution with an emphasis on the health and welfare of its citizens. With accountability to the residents in the form of quarterly reports.

8.  We ask for point source testing of flows coming to Munson Slough to determine sources and possible liability for those sources.
