Restart the bus service in Hackleton and Piddington
Restart the bus service in Hackleton and Piddington
The Issue
In Hackleton and Piddington, Northamptonshire, we are facing a significant challenge that affects the lives of many young people, including myself. Currently, there are no bus services in our area, which creates a real obstacle for those of us under 17 trying to gain a sense of independence. Without access to reliable public transport, children and teenagers must rely entirely on our parents for transportation. However, many parents, including mine, often have busy schedules and cannot always be available to drive us to various activities.
The absence of a bus service restricts our participation in extracurricular activities, clubs, and job opportunities. These are not only vital for personal growth and development but also essential for future career paths and building social skills. When young people are unable to participate in such activities, it limits their experiences and achievements, which could have long-term effects on their confidence and aspirations.
As well the previous factor mentioned, those who are elderly and also have busy families I also lack transportation and therefore freedom in their own town, causing for an increase in the isolation of the elderly, which has been increasing since the 2000s, and by restarting the busses, our elderly will be able to have full freedoms over their lives, and will be able to escape the loneliness epidemic which is currently spreading through the county
With re-establishing a bus service between Hackleton, Piddington and surrounding areas, our community could benefit immensely. Young and elderly people would be empowered with the freedom to actively engage in valuable opportunities. Additionally, the availability of public transportation would mean that parents have some relief from the constant strain of being the only means of transportation for their children.
Statistics from several studies show that access to reliable public transportation increases educational and employment opportunities for young people and contributes positively to community life. By having a bus service, Hackleton and Piddington can become vibrant communities where young people thrive.
The benefits go beyond personal gain. Reviving the bus service would reduce the number of car trips needed, thereby decreasing local pollution and contributing to more environmentally friendly alternatives.
I urge Northamptonshire County Council and local transportation agencies to consider the immediate need for a renewed bus service in our area. By bringing back this essential service, we would not only restore access to opportunities for our youth but also contribute to a cleaner and more cohesive community environment.
Please support our petition and help us bring a bus service back to Hackleton and Piddington. Sign our petition today to make a change for the betterment of our youth and our community.
