Mangaluru-Hassan-Miraj railway network connects important places like Mangaluru,Puttur,Subrahmanya,Sakleshpur,Hassan,Arsikere,Chikmagaluru(Kadur Jn,Birur Jn),Davanagere,Haveri,Hubballi-Dharwad,Londa,Belagavi,Miraj.

Mangaluru,Hubballi and Belagavi are the three of major cities in Karnataka, of which one is in Coastal Karnataka and another two are in North Karnataka.These cities play important role in development of Karnataka.

Mangaluru which is religious, tourist, educational,commercial hub of Karnataka which is one of fastest developing cities in India.NITK Surathkal which is one of the best NITs in India is situated in Surathkal,Mangaluru. Dakshina Kannada district is famous for tourist,religious places. Thousands of people visit famous temples of Karnataka like Kukke Shri Subrahmanya Temple, Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Shri Manjunatha Swamy Temple daily. Puttur is known as “Dakshina Kashi”(Kashi of South India) as the cemetery(Smashana) is situated North West to famous historical temple Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Uppinangadi which is just 12kms away from Dakshin Kashi Puttur is also known as Dakshin Prayag as the confluence(Sangam) of River Nethravathi and River Kumaradhara takes place near the historic temple dedicated to Lord Shiva Shri Sahasralingeshwara Temple which is situated at heart of Uppinangady town. 

Hassan,one of oldest city in Karnataka is known from the date of Hoysala Empire.Hoysala Empire ruled this city for a long time and their influence can be seen in the art and inscriptions on the different monuments. Famous tourist,religious places like Belur,Halebidu,Shravanabelagola are situated near to Hassan city. Sakleshpur,one of the hill station in Karnataka is situated in Hassan district and attracts tourists because of beauty of Western Ghats. It is also known as "Switzerland of Karnataka". Arsikere is one of important city in Hassan district and is the major junction of South Western railway network.

Chikmagalur is famous for its tranquil environment, dense forests and tall mountains. Also known as the Coffee Land of Karnataka, Chikmagalur is the place where coffee was cultivated for the first time in India by a Sufi saint Baba Budan Ji.

Davanagere – A major district in Central Karnataka, Davangere is popular for textile industry. Davangere Cotton Mills is a very popular name. Since, it is a major cotton hub, it is also known as "Manchester of Karnataka". Davanagere district is the heart of Karnataka. Davanagere is also famous for "Benne Dosa(ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ದೋಸೆ)".

Haveri is well known for its rich culture and heritage and is considered as the gateway to North Karnataka. Haveri is the birthplace of several prominent personalities such as Santa Shishunala Sharif, Kanaka Dasa and Sarvajna. This place is also home to several renowned writers such as Jnanapeetha awardee Dr V.K. Haveri district is also well known for spice cultivation. "Byadgi Chilli" gets its name from the town Byadgi situated in Haveri district.

Hubballi is the commercial hub of Karnataka state popularly known as Vanijya Nagari & Chota Mumbai. Hubli has a wide cluster of industries and has more than a lakh small and medium industries.The Government of India has set up a Software Technology Park of India on Dharwad Road and Aryabhata Tech Park in Navanagar region of Hubli.The city is situated on the dividing line between Malnad and the Deccan plateau. Malnad is well known for its forests and forest-based industries and the other three sides are known for their agricultural products including cotton, groundnut, and oilseeds, as well as manganese ore and granite. Hubballi-Dharwad twin cities are also known for famous educational institutional institutions. Dharwad hosts many universities,colleges and autonomous institutions. IIIT Dharwad is situated in Dharward which is one of 25 IIITs in India. Dharwad is famous for the sweet pedha,hence the sweet is popularly known as "Dharwad Pedha".

Shri Siddharoodha Swamy Math is situated in Hubballi,where thousands of pilgrims visit this Math,stay here.

Belagavi acts as a trade centre for food grains, sugarcane, cotton, tobacco, oilseed, and milk products. Industries include leather, clay, pottery, soap, cotton, and precious metals. It is very famous for it's Powerloom Industries which provide employment for many weavers. Major tourist places like Gokak Falls,Belagavi Fort etc are situated in Belagavi district. Belagavi is also famous for the sweet "Kunda",hence it is popularly known as "Belagavi Kunda".

Miraj,the city situated in Sangli district was an important Jagir of the Adil Shahi Court of Bijapur. Shivaji Maharaj stayed in Miraj for two months during his South India Campaign. Because of its location, Miraj has been held as a strategic bastion. It was the capital of Miraj Senior and is an important junction on the central railway network.

Hubballi which is the important city of North Karnataka gets connected with Tr No. 07377/78 Vijayapura-Mangaluru Express Special train. This train has good patronage. But,currently there is no train to Belagavi,Miraj in this route. 

Mangaluru-Miraj Mahalakshmi Express train was running before during meter gauge time via Hassan. This train used to provide direct connectivity between North Karnataka and Coastal Karnataka. Also, it used to connect Maharastra with Karnataka.Thousands of people were benefited by this train during that time itself.This train service was stopped during gauge conversion. 

Now, demands are arising to restart this train again via Hassan,Arsikere which will connect important places like Mangaluru,Puttur,Subrahmanya,Sakleshpur,Hassan,Arsikere,Davanagere,Haveri,Hubballi,Dharwad,Belagavi and Miraj.This train which also help people to travel to Kolhapur also.

So, by signing this petition we request Ministry of Railways,South Western Railway and Southern Railway to restart Mangaluru-Miraj Mahalakshmi Express or add slip coaches to Train Number 07377/78 Mangaluru Jn-Vijayapura Express Special and bifurcate it at SSS Hubballi Jn and make slip part to run till Miraj Jn so that connectivity is provided. Please take action on this as soon as possible.
