Respect Our Privacy: No RFID
The Issue
Human tracking is highly inappropriate, either directly or indirectly, through clothing, consumer goods, and/or other items; such as personal vehicles.
The Cayman Islands Government has said that the new RFID licensing system will help improve revenue collection as it will allow police to track vehicles not up to date with licence fees, and can be modified to allow the issuing of tickets for this offence electronically. Sure they may be able to improve their business processes and save money, but what about our rights to privacy? They will be tracking our vehicles, and ultimately tracking humans.
Mr. Dixon says, "The system is controlled directly by DVDL and the police. It is our system and is not linked to another database." However, other industries argue that when RFID applications are confined to closed systems, the data is only accessible to those within the system. So what about oversight, transparency and accountability of this closed system?
If you feel that you are entitled to the right of privacy, and that this closed system will cause more problems than it will solve, please sign this petition.
Thank you.
