For years, our Walnut Farms community in Summerville, SC, has been battling a persistent drainage problem that has affected many of its residents, like myself. Our neighborhood, which is over 40 years old, has seen new developments arise around us. Unfortunately, these developments have disregarded the natural flow of water. As a result, water is diverted towards our streets, leading to frequent flooding and extensive damage to homeowners' yards.

Our community has approached our county authorities numerous times, seeking assistance with this recurring issue. We've asked for the replacement of old, damaged pipes beneath our roads, the deepening of swales, and the clearing out of existing drainage pipes. Yet, despite our pleas, little has been done to alleviate the problem.

The flooding not only ruins our beautiful neighborhood but poses a significant safety risk, making roads impassable during heavy rains. Homeowners find themselves in constant fear of the impact each storm will bring, worrying about potential property damage and the safety of their families.

Solving this issue requires concrete actions from our local government. We urge the county to prioritize repairing and upgrading our drainage systems, ensuring new developments include adequate water management plans, and implementing long-term water diversion strategies that do not burden our neighborhood.
