Resist Approval of the Short-Term Rental in R1 District at 223 W. Detweiller Drive

Resist Approval of the Short-Term Rental in R1 District at 223 W. Detweiller Drive
The Issue
As longstanding owner occupants of homes in the idyllic Detweiller Subdivision, we stand together in opposition to the proposal to sanction a Special Use in a Class R1 (Single-Family Residential) District for a Short-Term Rental for the property located at 223 W. Detweiller Drive, Peoria, IL (Parcel Identification No. 14-04-326-032). The harmony in our neighborhood is threatened with the proposed establishment of this rental. Our concern lies in the potential disturbance and disruption that could be introduced into our close-knit community by transient tenants. Single-family neighborhoods are designed to serve as sanctuaries for their residents, where like-minded people raise their families in peace. The introduction of a short-term rental could bring an unpredictable element, and is not representative of the purpose and zoning intent of the area. Moreover, studies show a potential increase in local crime rates associated with short-term rental properties (Wolf, J. "Short Term Rentals and Crime", Urban Analytics, June 2017). Based on the detrimental impact to our neighborhood's cohesion, security, and tranquility, we urge you to oppose approving the special usage for the identified property. Please join us in preserving the integrity of our beloved Detweiller Subdivision – sign the petition.
