Resign Donald Trump as President of the United States Once More
The Issue
My name is Bennett, and I am deeply alarmed at the prospect of Donald Trump serving as the President of the United States again. To me, this is not merely about politics; it concerns the future and integrity of the United States of America. During his presidency from 2017 to 2021, the United States faced enormous division and conflict which we are still healing from.
Under Trump's administration, the national debt increased by nearly $7.8 trillion—an increase of 39 percent [Source: U.S. Department of the Treasury]. Moreover, the response to the COVID-19 pandemic was vastly inadequate, leading to more than 200,000 American deaths in less than a year of the outbreak [Source: Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University].
Our democracy, our principles, and our people should never be pawns in the hands of someone who consistently undermines them. It becomes increasingly essential, therefore, to prevent Donald Trump from ever being able to step into the office of the President again, to ensure a future for the United States that is driven by unity, sustainability, and empathy.
Trump has been described a demagogue, and there exists significant scholarly study over the use of demagogy and related themes within Trumpism. Trump explicitly and routinely disparages racial, religious, and ethnic minorities, and scholars consistently find that racial animus regarding blacks, immigrants, and Muslims are the best predictors of support for Trump. Trumpist rhetoric heavily features anti-immigrant, xenophobic, nativist, and racist attacks against minority groups. Other identified aspects include conspiracist, isolationist, Christian nationalist, evangelical Christian, protectionist, anti-feminist, and anti-LGBT beliefs.
The United States presidential line of succession is the order in which the vice president of the United States and other officers of the United States federal government assume the powers and duties of the U.S. presidency (or the office itself, in the instance of succession by the vice president) upon an elected president's death, resignation, removal from office, or incapacity.
The order of succession specifies that the office passes to the vice president; if the vice presidency is simultaneously vacant, the powers and duties of the presidency pass to the speaker of the House of Representatives, president pro tempore of the Senate, and then Cabinet secretaries, depending on eligibility.
Our country deserves a leader who understands the weight of their duty to the people, instead of exploiting it for personal benefit. Please sign this petition to enforce a commitment to hold our leaders accountable and protect the integrity of our great nation.
