Do you believe Salt Lake City voters should have a say on (1) the future of our downtown (including whether Abravanel Hall should be saved), (2) whether city-wide sales taxes should be increased, and (3) how any increased sales tax revenues should be used?

We-the-people have the right to vote on whether a city ordinance will stand. Help us get the matter on the ballot! If you can help, please contact Rocky Anderson soon. (rockyanderson.justice@gmail.com)

Should the people have a say on the plan to turn over control of 100 acres of our  downtown to a billionaire who, if the City Council and Mayor have their way, would be directly subsidized by almost a billion dollars from a new city-wide sales tax--and indirectly subsidized by the remainder of the sales tax increase (hundreds of millions of dollars)?

Please help organize a referendum effort to allow the issue to be placed on the ballot so the people can decide. We DO have the right to direct democracy here.

Let's assert that power and demonstrate that, as the Utah Constitution says: "All political power is inherent in the people; and all free governments are founded on their authority for the equal protection and benefit . . . "

Again, please contact Rocky Anderson (rockyanderson.justice@gmail.com) right away if you will help get this issue on the ballot.

The Salt Lake City Council, in line with the Mayor, recently voted to approve a plan to turn over control of 100 acres downtown to billionaire Ryan Smith (who has no experience in downtown development), with a subsidy of almost a billion dollars from a sales tax increase that applies only in the City.

Notwithstanding an overwhelmingly popular demand to protect Abravanel Hall and its Plaza from demolition or major alteration, the Council and Mayor have refused to insist on that protection and remain mum about it. Instead, they have simply done whatever Smith and the Utah Legislature have told them to do--even though most people in SLC have other priorities for the use of precious public funds and want to protect and preserve Abravanel Hall.

Regardless of your ultimate view on this matter, support the crucial right of voters to decide.

We-the-people have the legal right to exercise direct democracy and demand a vote on whether we want an ordinance by the City Council approving a city-wide sales tax increase (which is expected soon) to stand. Let's exercise that precious right!
