We deserve to have a say in the future of Newbold Comyn

We deserve to have a say in the future of Newbold Comyn
The Issue
We want Warwick District Council to withdraw planning application W/21/0256 for Newbold Comyn golf course.
The application is flawed. The plans have materially changed since the original consultation.
With the large amounts of interest being shown from cycling groups around the country, Newbold Comyn seems set to become a destination mountain biking venue.
New plans that accurately reflect the scale of the cycle tracks and ones that are completely transparent about the Council's commercial objectives for Newbold Comyn should be drafted and sent out for a full public consultation.
Warwick District Council has submitted a planning application for a network of cycle trails to cover two-thirds of the old Newbold Comyn Golf Course.
Creating the trails will have a huge visual impact on one of the most loved and well-used open spaces in the District and materially change its use.
The plans are much more extensive than were originally proposed and cover a wider area. The scale of them has attracted interest nationally within the cycling community. Large numbers of cyclists from all over the country are supporting the application each day, expressing 'excitement' about using the tracks.
Newbold Comyn is the largest and most open space in the District for us to exercise and enjoy nature freely and safely. This will change it completely.
Instead of a 'local facility for local people', Newbold Comyn looks set to become a destination mountain biking venue, something that local people have not been consulted on.
This application is fatally flawed because the plans have fundamentally changed.
If the old golf course is to become a mountain biking attraction, local people must be consulted on their views about the change of use, and also made fully aware of the impact this will have on traffic, safety, parking, local facilities and the infrastructure needed to support it.
Before any work begins to change it, we must have a say in its future. And we can only have a meaningful say if the Council is completely transparent about its plans.
- Withdraw planning application W/21/0256
- Create new plans that accurately reflect the objectives for this space
- Allow local people to have their say.
