The Farmer's Market at The Glen (Coming Summer 2022??)
The Issue
Earlier today, April 19, 2021, I posted an idea about creating a weekly Farmer's Market at The Glen.
Across the street from the Kent Fuller Air Station and near the corner of Compass and Lehigh (in The Glen) there is an asphalt lot that is hardly ever if ever, used. I have confirmed that it is a Village of Glenview-owned lot.
Here is my post from this morning:
------------
Dear Glenview Neighbors,
I was out walking a neighbors dog the other day while they were out of town. We walked back towards this patch of empty asphalt just across from the Kent Fuller Air Station Prairie in The Glen. Very near walking distance is the North Metra Station.
How about we build a large weekly Farmer's Market which could draw from near (and far) neighbors using the train while allowing children to explore at the Kent Fuller Air Station Prairie??
Residents of Downtown Glenview or Northbrook or Golf or Morton Grove could hop the train to go to and from to cut down on road traffic. There is ample parking nearby both on the streets nearby and at the North Metra Station lot to the East.
It would be great to get the Village Government, Park District Board, The Glen Town Center team, and Metra to work together to add another great and sustainable feature to our community.
My vision includes kids' activities such as face painting, balloon animals, games, etc.
I know that we have one nearby to Wagner Farm but due to traffic and limited vendor space & variety, we travel to the Evanston Farmer's Market instead. What are your thoughts??
------------
My research today suggests that the Dane County Farmer's Market in Madison, Wisconsin could be a model market for ours to follow.
Would you support a new and expanded Farmer's Market in Glenview?
This would be a non-profit effort with proceeds going to the various Educational foundations in our Village community.
