My name is Samaira, a 10 year old girl. I’ve always been moved by animals being abused, specifically dogs. I always wonder how people hurt these loving creatures. The government in Singapore has made enough laws to prevent abuse. But abuse and abandonment continues.

There are many shelters and many volunteers who help prevent such abuse and care for dogs who often come to them after months of abuse and neglect. 

However, all shelters, whether it supports animals, children etc always have a need. The need to sustain. Yet, people don’t always donate. My country, Singapore, has the situation of abusing dogs under control, but shelters need more money. This is why I think that Singapore needs to give 50c from each person’s tax to shelters. 2.4 million people pay their taxes each year so 50c from each persons tax would be S$1.2 Million to shelters.

A dog shelter needs an estimate of S$20,000 every month to keep these abandoned animals safe and healthy. A majority Of these expenses goes towards their health and then, shelters just have enough to provide care for them. 

The economic impact of COVID-19 has just about started and it is likely to impact all businesses in Singapore. It’s also impacting shelters, which primarily operate from donations. This is the time when shelters will need money more than ever. People can’t buy any animals or adopt, so at this point, shelters will NOT have enough money to take care of dogs. Sign this petition.
