The Issue

The owner of No. 54 Pemberton Gardens wants to convert the (Category C3(a)) three/four - bedroom residential property into a (Category C2) CHILDREN’S HOME and is seeking planning permission.

We believe that planning permission should ‘NOT’ be granted under any circumstances.

Whilst we support the need for more children’s homes to be provided in the borough we are not objecting to this development on discriminatory grounds. The residents of Pemberton Gardens, feel that the proposed premises WOULD NOT BE SUITABLE for the following reasons:

1)      The location of the property is Inappropriate due to Crime and Drug Activity. The corner of Pemberton Gardens and Morley Road adjacent to 54 Pemberton Gardens, is a regular DRUG meeting place for USERS and for the SUPPLY OF DRUGS. One of our main concerns is that the prospect of vulnerable children living ON THAT SAME CORNER would lead to the exploitation of those children and encourage more DRUG TRAFFIC.

2)      Safeguarding Risks for Children and Residents

3)      Set a planning precedent that could lead to further institutional or commercial developments

4)      Potentially bring increased antisocial behaviour, littering (including nitrous oxide canisters, discarded finished ‘joints’), and late-night disturbance.
