Save Keeta and Demi

Save Keeta and Demi
The Issue
Keeta and Demi are two female black dogs owned by Kassie Brandt and Tyce Meyer. Keeta and Demi are littermates from a shar pei/lab mix.
In early june of 2019, Keeta and Demi escaped their fence and got into a doggie fight with a neighbor's dog that was running freely and unattended. In early Feburary of 2020 they escaped again only due to a hole put in their fence by a friends dog that was staying with them. Once again they ended up in a fight with the same neighbors dog that was running around freely and unattended. Almost a week after the dog fight the neighbors dog died from complications and/or possible infection from the injuries sustained in the fight.
Kassie and Myself (Tyce Meyer) feel horrible about the situation and the outcome. We know nothing can be done to replace our neighbors dog and can only imagine the emotional pain they are going through.
With that being said, we do not believe killing Keeta and Demi will fix this situation. Neither Keeta or Demi have ever injured another dog or human being besides the dog from these incidents. We also believe they would never hurt another animal unless they were provoked in some manner. Keeta and Demi have also been tested by a dog behavioral specialist who confirmed that they are not aggressive dogs.
Keeta and Demi are loving dogs that live in the house more than they are outside. These dogs have been around children and other animals their entire 7 years of life without any incidents. They love to spend time at the river and tagging along to softball almost every week during the summer. During all of these outings, Keeta and Demi are around dozens of unknown adults, pets, and children.
With that being said we love these dogs like our children and their brother, Goose (our basset hound), is lost without them. Nobody is perfect and we haven't been 100% successful in keeping them fenced in. As a resident of Onida, SD I think that most people realize that we are not the only ones to ever have a dog get away by accident. Although, in our defense, we at least take active measures to keep them in a kennel.
The state of South Dakota and the Sheriff of Onida have given us no other option than to kill our dogs.
Kassie and I are asking to be able to remove the dogs from the city of Onida and to never return them.
We ask that anyone that is willing please sign this petition and help us keep our dogs alive!!!
