On Friday, June 6, a cyclist was tragically killed, and two others were injured, in Beachcomber, Nanoose Bay. We send our profound condolences to everyone affected.

548 of you have signed this petition to improve road safety in Nanoose Bay, by calling on all levels of government to take our concerns about infrastructure, capacity, and enforcement seriously. Thank you. We are also grateful to those of you who are sharing this petition in your circles, and to those of you who are printing it off and soliciting hard copy signature sheets that you are sending us as well.

Given that we have had two traffic deaths in the community within the last six months, we are striking a Nanoose Bay Road Safety Coalition to come together and proactively advocate to the RDN, Ministry of Transportation and Transit, the RCMP and Highway Patrol, and to other relevant parties in the provincial and federal governments, to address road safety concerns here proactively.

If you are interested in joining this coalition, please contact Zoe Todd at zoe dot todd at gmail dot com. We aim to coordinate a virtual meeting over zoom by the end of June and an in-person meeting in July (this will depend on the availability of space). We will also keep you updated here through this petition to let you know what our next steps are.

You can also send letters to the RDN, to our MLA, to our MP, and to the Ministry of Transportation asking them to take our concerns seriously. Feel free to copy and past parts of this petition letter into your own letter to help you draft it. Email is one concrete way we can get our issues heard by our representatives. Here are their contact pages:
