SAVE historic WILLIAMSON PARK before it's too late

The Issue

We, the residents and friends of the beautiful and historic borough of Morrisville, PA, petition the Borough Council to STOP the proposed development by Select Morrisville LLC along the Delaware river in Morrisville, that is slated to “transform Williamson Park into a mixed-use development featuring more than 500 luxury apartments, a hotel, retail shops, restaurants and an amphitheater between the Trenton-Makes and Calhoun Street bridges.”

Williamson Park is the only big park in town that provides important recreational green space to the public in and around Morrisville (please refer to article 1, § 27 of the Pennsylvania Constitution about the people's right to the preservation of PA’s natural resources, copied below). The park is nestled between some fine neighborhoods. It is also the home of the historic Morrisville Little League’s baseball and softball fields (see their separate petition), which are going to be drastically reduced according to the plans by the builder.

The plan proposes luxury apartments that will lead to gentrification in addition to the following concerns:

  • Loss of green space/ recreational space (incl. loss of tennis and basketball courts)
  • Disruption of Park and Central Ave neighborhood through delivery trucks (to grocer, stores, restaurants and hotel) and the parking lot
  • Obstruction of river view
  • Obstruction of park view for Delmorr Ave residents
  • Light pollution
  • Competition to local businesses
  • Stand-alone development with lack of inclusion of other neighborhoods
  • Disturbance of migratory bird patterns (EAC)
  • Even higher traffic volumes on Bridge street

WE NEED YOUR VOICES AND SIGNATURES TO SHOW THE BOROUGH COUNCIL THAT THIS IMPORTANT PARK NEEDS TO BE PRESERVED FOR THE WELLBEING OF THE PEOPLE!

§ 27.  Natural resources and the public estate.

The people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment. Pennsylvania's public natural resources are the common property of all the people, including generations yet to come. As trustee of these resources, the Commonwealth shall conserve and maintain them for the benefit of all the people.     (May 18, 1971, P.L.769, J.R.3)
