As a group, we would like to respectfully address, the issue about the issue regarding the increase of fare in the city of Cabanatuan. This issue have been affecting everyone especially students and people who rely on tricycle as their primary choice of transportation.

Cabanatuan city has been dubbed as the “tricycle capital of the Philippines”, because it has about 30,000 registered tricycle as of September 2009. This vehicle has been widely used across the country and has been providing supplementary services for the public commuters. Tricycle driving has been an occupation and an alternative livelihood preferred by most unemployed residents because it does not require a huge capital to own and maintain one. 

Based on the records of 2010, the city of Cabanatuan has 13,966 registered motorcycle operators, 3,500 registered for private and service uses, and an estimated amount of 6,000 illegal tricycles operating in Cabanatuan city.  In the interviews, tricycle drivers have a daily net/income of 300 to 400 pesos, which is just enough for daily needs of a family.

Majority of the problems of the commuters are the students. Everyday these passengers are often fare contracted far above the city ordinance law. Based on the studies and surveys, the tricycle operators is not following the legal fare rate. Cabanatuan city has one of the highest in terms of the fare rate per kilometer. Who among you experience the higher rate fare charge by the tricycle drive operators in Cabanatuan City?

• Regular  - 10 pesos per kilometer
• MPW  -     7 pesos per kilometer
