Basura mo, Responsibilidad mo

Basura mo, Responsibilidad mo
The Issue
Most households in every barangay consume different products which contain hazardous chemicals. Later on, when people no longer want or need these products, they eventually become hazardous wastes. However, these products will not be harmful if we use and dispose them properly. Hence, nowadays people are dumping it anywhere they want. These practices lead to worse scenarios like contamination of lakes, rivers, etc., and it can also be the cause of floodings.
According to some researches, about 35,580 tons of garbage is generated every day in the Philippines. On average, each person in the country produces about 0.5 kg and 0.3 kg of garbage every day in the urban and rural areas, respectively. Also, it showed that the household is the major source of waste in the Philippines at 74%. Moreover, of the total solid waste generated from households, 95% can still be reused or recycled (43%) or turned into compost (52%).
Just like the barangays in Batangas City wherein the problems concerning our garbages are really visible. This is one of the major problems in the locality wherein every resident are affected by it. Residents are continuously throwing and disposing their wastes improperly, even though they already know its consequences. It seems like, we people, prefer to suffer from these consequences rather than to prevent it from happening.
That is why, as a concerned resident of our barangay, I am establishing a petition "Basura mo, Responsibilidad mo". This petition is to enlighten the residents that each and everyone's garbages is their responsibility. It is our responsibility to properly dispose them and not throw them anywhere we want. Even though our barangay is already doing some actions, I am still looking forward to another step to directly lessen and cease these issue or problem concerning the garbages.
