Help Save Pygmy Possums From Immanent Extinction!
The issue
The impact of starvation is devastation to the Pygmy Possum population.
Each year Pygmy possums hibernate over winter for up to 7 months, most of these cute little mammals die from starvation because their main food source, the bogong moth, is not able to migrate to the pygmy possums because they are often distracted by porch lights and street lights. So every time you leave your outdoor lighting on at night, pygmy possums will lose much of their food source
The worst part is that researchers estimate there are fewer than 2000 pygmy possums left in the wild, and every year most of them will die from starvation.
Well there is something we can do about it. We can adapt the type of light so that the bogong moths are less attracted to the street lights You can also switch off your out door lighting so Bogong moths don't get distracted and can make their way to the pygmy possums
But if we do not, in only a few years pygmy possums will become extinct in the wild. It is so stupid how humans can be so inconsiderate of these adorable little fluffballs, just by leaving your light on!
For now the least we must do to save the species is leave you outdoor lighting off or changing the type of streetlights we use so we don’t contribute to any more Pygmy possum deaths.
