We’ve reached 248 signatures… I am so proud of all of you for having the courage to sign your names. many people have viewed this petition. Many of you didn’t sign in fear of retaliation against your job or your loved one currently living in the landings. I completely understand. The area we reside in is very close knit. Everyone seems to know someone that knows someone. Almost everyone in management in these local communities have once worked together in another facility or for a past employer. They have formed lasting friendships, connections, and allies. When any outsider, or person does anything that disrupts the order of business in any way that affects those allies whether it be financially, socially, or politically, they risk receiving unwarranted mistreatment, harassment, indirect retaliation, and so much more just for speaking out and trying to advocate for what’s right. I have received all of that and am still receiving it. Every person is not fit for that challenge. It’s hard being judged, having your character defamed, credibly questioned, and scrutinized to the world. I’ve suffered extreme financial hardship, cried crocodile tears because sometimes it seems much easier to just stay silent and move on. Many people love to say “it has nothing to do with me!” However, there’s 50+ seniors in The Landings of Swansboro that pay a pretty penny for care that they have been promised that they are not receiving. They deserve standard servings of food at mealtimes. They should not be left hungry. They deserve hot food not cold. They deserve to be toileted, showered, and dressed. They deserve to receive their scheduled medications on time everyday without running out of their medicine. They don’t deserve to have staff working under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Nor do they deserve to be exploited and posted online for views and entertainment purposes. They deserve caring staff that have been trained adequately who can give person centered care to each and every one of them. After all it’s what they pay for. Staff deserve leadership that cares just as much about running a facility while maintaining compliance as they care about growing their census. In order to be a great leader you must first be able to follow. A building cannot function without all components and counterparts in place and doing their due diligence. Chy’Kela Caldwell needs to understand this. If the head isn’t together then the body falls apart and the employee body in the landings of Swansboro has fallen to pieces under her leadership. Much of this is because there is no compassion for residents or staff, no empathy, and a lack of understanding. Teaching moments are far and few. The expectation is to do as I say not as I do and only a selected few of people are held accountable. As long as a body is willing to cover the shift to maintain staffing ratios so much is overlooked. When an ED won’t show up for her staff then most likely her staff will not show up for her. This is the game of cat and mouse being played by Caldwell and has been for a long time. Cover ups and cop outs seem to work for Caldwell more than accountability, apologies, and correction. How many of you have had your loved ones in the landings? Month on end you paid rent that was constantly increased unexpectedly. Yet your loved one died and you have yet to even receive a phone call from Caldwell extending her condolences to you during your time of grief? How did that make you feel? Maybe you lost your loved one and have had so many unanswered questions about their death and none of your questions have been answered. This is not ok. This is sad! Every time the thought of giving up crosses my mind I think of how every year I am a year closer to being a senior citizen. Their today can easily be my tomorrow. And that is enough to say that even though standing up may be the more difficult and uncomfortable route I know it is the right one. The Landings of Swansboro needs new leadership. Staff and residents deserve better. I will not be silenced. No matter how much I am harassed and intimidated I will not be silenced. If I lack at all God will provide.
