The owner of the Riviera Golf Club course in Naples, Florida, plans to develop the golf course.  It is anticipated that the course would be rezoned residential.

We believe that Conservation Collier, which is tasked with purchasing threatened lands on behalf of Collier County, should offer to purchase the Riviera Golf Course.

The approximately 94 acre course meets a number of Conservation Collier's criteria:

It is habitat for a Florida-state listed threatened sub-species, the Big Cypress Fox Squirrel.

It would enhance the aesthetic setting of Collier County by offering nature-based recreation. 

The course offers protection of water resource values such as aquifer recharge and flood control.

The existing golf course paths and parking areas make the property accessible to the public. 

In addition, Conservation Collier evaluates properties based on vulnerability to development.

Finally, the course is within a few hundred feet of the Rich King Memorial Greenway.
