Naming and beautifying an alley in honour of Kit Hood of Degrassi

Naming and beautifying an alley in honour of Kit Hood of Degrassi
The Issue
My sister and I would like to name the laneway behind 935 Queen Street (previous home of the Playing With Time offices that created, developed and produced Degrassi) just east of Carlaw Avenue to Logan Avenue.
Playing With Time (PWT) was a Toronto-based television production company which was established in 1976 and produced Degrassi episodes into the 1990’s. Our father was instrumental in building Degrassi, a series that touched and influenced the lives of many children and youth through the years as the episodes dealt with such taboo topics at the time as abuse, neglect, teen pregnancy, abortion, sexual orientation, etc. Degrassi is followed in over 100 countries and is translated into over a dozen languages.
I have talked to many of the people that my father worked with over the years and a great number of them have mentioned the positive, encouraging and mentoring influence my father had on them and their careers.
After my father retired, he continued to rent the Playing With Time offices to Woodgreen Community Services and the Red Door Family Shelter which acted as an emergency shelter and support for women and children affected by domestic abuse, families experiencing a housing crisis and refugee claimants with nowhere else to turn.
As it stands now, the alleyway behind 935 Queen St. East and Dr. R. J. Black Veterinary Hospital (both buildings that appear as though they should be listed on the heritage register) is nothing but a badly paved laneway full of graffiti and overgrown weeds. Naming a laneway gives the lane an identity and creates a sense of place, which also encourages more pedestrian traffic, making it safer. The collaborative process of naming a laneway (and it takes a collaborative process), helps build community connections, good will and a feeling of neighbourhood pride.
Will you support our initiative and sign our petition to name and beautify this lane?
Thank you!
