Fair & reasonable public consultation on Salvation Army Mega Shelter in Vanier needed NOW
The Issue
The residents and business persons of Vanier were not fairly and reasonably consulted on the Salvation Army 350 Bed Shelter which will hold 150 emergency beds and the rest treatment beds. The facility proposed is flawed because it is to large to manage and treatment will not work well in a building that houses active addicts and alcoholics and attracts drug dealers. Smaller emergency shelters and treatment facilities are needed in separate locations. This facility will overwhelm the Vanier community with struggling people with a project that has a low change of reducing homelessness by successfully addressing drug addiction alcoholism and mental illness.
