Help Save Chance and Axe

The Issue

We have lived at our home located in Marbury Md for 10 years. Almost three years ago we brought a Standard American Bulldog home to join our family whom we named Chance. Two years ago we installed an electric fence around the entire perimeter of our property so our animals could enjoy the entire property. We have a big open yard and small section of wooded area behind our house. Chance proved himself to be loving and playful and filled our hearts with so much love we decided to get another of the same breed to join our family. Seven months ago we brought another boy home and named him Axe. Both of our boys have collars keeping them inside the electric fence and we have not had any problems since installing. It’s our usual morning routine to let the dogs outside to play and enjoy the sunshine. On Wednesday morning after breakfast and before leaving to take my son to school I let my dogs outside like I do every morning. I drove my son to LaPlata, got gas and came home. When I arrived back home both of my animals were in my yard with collars still attached, however Chance was bleeding from his chest and had several bites all over his body. Animal control pulled in almost directly behind me and informed me he had been called out to the address directly behind my house. The new neighbor that moved in a few weeks ago with a Pitbull has accused my animals of coming on to her property and attacking her animal. My animals were not removed from my care but I was given two citations for having “A Dangerous and Vicious Animal” (one for each boy). Concerned for the well being of my pets I immediately took them to the vet. Upon examination the vet told me it didn’t appear that Axe was involved in any altercation, because he had no drool, dirt, abrasions, bite marks or blood and was given a clean bill of health. Chance needed medical care for the chest wound. My dogs are now on a 10day quarantine here at home. I have a hearing scheduled for March 3rd here in Charles County. Since my dogs have been labeled “Dangerous and Vicious” and are a large bully breed I fear the worst case outcome- them being removed from our home or them being euthanized. My animals were never seen off of my property by the responding officer and we have had no issues with our dogs staying within the perimeter. I’m not placing blame because I feel that the board will reach the truth during the hearing. Two families and three bully breed dogs are involved and my heart hurts for them as well because their dog was also injured. I know large breeds can appear scary but I have two very good and loving family dogs; it would crush our family to lose them. I’m asking you all to sign my petition to try and sway the board members; to not enact the strictest punishment which would be to have my animals euthanized. Also should the board deem that they are indeed dangerous and vicious our boys would never be allowed outside without being on a leash or secured in a pin. This is not the life we want for our animals, who are used to riding bikes with our family, running and playing. I am asking everyone to look past the stigmas of the breed, and see them for the family animals that they are. Please help save my fur babies and sign.
