RE: CONCERNED PARENTS AND RESIDENTS SCHAUDERVILLE COMMUNITY PETITION ON THE INCOMPLETE PROJECT OF DAVID LIVINGSTONE SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL NELSON MANDELA METRO
We the residents of Schauderville in support of parents, the School Governing Body and school going youth make the following submission to the Eastern Cape Provincial
Legislature on the immediate future of the School, our children and our community:
1. Over many years the School has played a pivotal role in the social transformation process providing the youth with the requisite academic qualifications for further
Development.
2. The School has produced prominent and influential Political, Sports, Arts and Industry players who has made visible contributions to the South African and international landscape.
3. During the 1980’s in particular, the student movement consisting student activists contributed to the struggle for freedom and education transformation free from the shekels of bantu education.
4. Because the school has been in existence for quite some time, it was inevitable that at some stage government would introduce infrastructural and developmental upgrades in line with the educational needs of the community.
5. The School also provides access to may learners from adjacent communities of predominantly isiXhosa Learners and has therefore contributed to nation building, social cohesion and racial integration.
6. Various teaching personalities warmed the classrooms inculcating high levels of academic discipline and sportsmanship to mould the future our children.
7. In many ways the School is the only hope to the transformation of families and our community.
8. We are saddened to see the school its current state and demand answers.
We therefore demand the following matters be addressed as per the rules on petitions as an important tool to advance democracy:
1. Proper budgeting and planning to execute the upgrading of the School without hindrance.
2. Integration onto operational plans for the 2021/22 financial year and MTEF Strategic Period.
3. Higher levels of accountability for project execution and management.
4. Consultation and inclusive community participation.
5. Clear and improved communication of project plan.
6. Job creation and utilization of local labour
7. Visit by the MECs for Public Works and Education to address the community on same
8. Clear role definition between the DOE and the DPW in the province.
9. Explanation of challenges experienced in the execution of the project and turnaround plan.
10. Adequate allocation of Teaching and support Staff.
11. Improved management of the School.
The Community is aware of the challenges faced by the province and the country during the disaster period of the corona virus.
We appeal to the Legisture as the voice of the people to restore the dignity of the community and our children through the expeditious processing of this petition.
