Every dog deserves a second chance.
Our cute-as-pie doggo, Bud, has been locked away in the pound since January, after an unfortunate incident with a local resident of Richmond. That's six long lonely months locked up in solitary confinement, with nowhere to run and nobody to play with.
It has been a deeply upsetting process to rescue Bud. Our appeals to the Yarra City Council have been ignored. Our only option left is to reach out to you to support our plea to the Yarra City Council to show compassion and ask that they return our gorgeous best friend to our arms —alive— before one last court appeal, another anguishing three months away.
Continuing to pursue this in court is not the best option available to the council, our financial situation, or for Bud's health. We love Bud and miss him dearly, so we are pleading that the council drop the destruction order against Bud. We are prepared and willing to comply with all of the conditions that a menacing or dangerous dog declaration imposes under the Domestic Animals Act (which is still bad but leaves Bud alive and in our care).
However rare and out of character the incident was, we acknowledge that it must be treated with cautious consideration. To further mitigate risk to the community, we have arranged to have a specialised dog behaviourist to rehabilitate Bud upon his release. Any dog owner, however, will sympathise with the unpredictability that comes with dog care.
Bud was raised by a very close friend of Aidan's who sadly passed away in 2014. Looking after Bud has been the most powerful thing in helping Aidan to cope with that loss. We could never have foreseen the situation Bud ended up in back in January, as we have always known Bud to be a sweet natured and gentle creature.
Please ask the Yarra City Council to drop their case to have our best friend destroyed. Bud has many more puppy-eyes and snuggles to give.
