The Issue

Dear Ms. Reiss Andersen and Dr. Syse,

As Chair and Deputy Chair of the Nobel Peace Committee, we respectively request that you rescind Aung San Suu Kyi's 1991 Nobel Peace Prize. While we understand that such a move is unprecedented, it is warranted given the ongoing genocide of the Rohingya population. As Muslims around the world celebrate their Eid, the Burmese Muslims are facing torture, death, and displacement while the Burmese Prime Minister (Aung San Suu Kyi) remains both silent and unwilling to protect them. This is anything but peace.

Rescinding Suu Kyi's Nobel prize would be more than merely symbolic. It is critical to the integrity of your organization with regard to being champions of peace. But even further, such an announcement would also raise much-needed attention to the deep suffering of the Rohingya people who are often described as victims of the "Hidden Genocide."  Thousands of lives truly depend upon it.

Thank you.
