Reschedule the History Test to the Second Quarter
The Issue
I am starting this petition driven not just by personal struggles with the history test scheduled for the first quarter, but also the difficulties of many of my peers. We have found that the limited time and the complexity of the material make understanding and preparing for the test grueling. Unfortunately, I am not alone in my difficulties, as many students share the same sentiment and struggle with the material.
Recent research shows that students perform better on tests when given adequate time to prepare and when the material is taught in a way that promotes long term retention rather than short term memorization (source: American Psychological Association, 2011). Our current situation doesn't allow for this optimal learning experience.
Moreover, History, as a subject, requires deep comprehension, discussion, and reflection to fully grasp its essence which can't be achieved in the rush of the first quarter. We believe our comprehension and thus our grades would significantly improve if the test was moved to the second quarter, allowing more time and better understanding.
I urge the school administration to reschedule the History test to the second quarter. We request your understanding and cooperation in this matter, as our academic success hangs in the balance. Please, sign this petition and join us in promoting a more balanced, student-friendly schedule for testing.
