Reschedule Fulton County's Class of 2020's Graduation Ceremonies

The Issue

Covid-19 has had an undeniable impact on communities across the globe. It has struck the medically fragile, small businesses, educators, and much more. Assuming the Class of 2020 has been the most damaged by this pandemic is both inaccurate and ignorant. But, with that being said, the dedication and commitment executed by the seniors of the Fulton County School System can not be diminished in any way, shape, or form. This includes hosting a graduation ceremony, that is meant to be the turning point in a student's life, virtually. This act degrades and demeans the work put in by countless seniors across the county and can not accurately depict the persistence and tenacity of the Class of 2020. With that being said, countless other Georgia counties have put in efforts to reschedule their ceremonies at a later date. Including Forsyth County who set new dates for ceremonies in July. We implore the Fulton County Board of Education and Superintendent, Dr. Mike Looney, to take similar action and encourage in-person ceremonies even if they have to take place in late July. On behalf of seniors across Fulton County, we would much rather wait to have an in-person graduation ceremony to highlight our successes and perseverance throughout each of our individual educational journeys than resort to a virtual one.
