The Issue

Through the months, we've logged, reported, discovered, and discussed the occasional lapses in our schools' food quality – from unwelcome discoveries of mold to unsanitary conditions, and sometimes even encountering terrible food quality. Once, our concerns gained so much attention that district food inspectors were called in. Yet, after all that effort, the issues were swept under the rug, with no transparency offered to students, teachers, or parents. The lack of care for our safety in favor of budgetary concerns leaves us enraged.

In Bay District Schools, we're calling for a change. Our children deserve to be served meals that are not only nutritious but also safe and up to health codes. Currently, without stringent and regular checks, there’s no guarantee of quality. Given the issues reported, it’s crucial to ensure our school food is inspected weekly. Persistence in ignorance is not an option when it comes to our children’s health and well-being.

The solution is straightforward but requires commitment: All school food should undergo weekly inspections to ensure compliance with health codes. An independent body, transparent in its dealings, should oversee this to ensure accountability. Findings should be transparently shared with the school community, creating a feedback loop that fosters trust and improvement.

According to the CDC, more than 130,000 children suffer from food-related illnesses each year in the U.S. alone. By addressing this issue locally, we can make a significant impact and set a precedent for others to follow.

Join us in this crucial initiative to protect the health of our students in Panama City Beach, Florida. The time to act is now. The children's safety and health are too important to leave unchecked. Let's ensure they get the quality meals they deserve by signing this petition.
