Running an online community like the Furry Den Community on VRChat should be a positive and safe space for everyone. Unfortunately, it has become increasingly necessary to take vigilant action in removing members who have displayed unspeakable behavior — actively seeking sexual attention from minors well below the age of consent. Just recently, several individuals displaying such predatory behavior had to be expelled, highlighting a distressing pattern of abuse that shows no signs of abating.

VRChat, a platform that is enjoyed by many people worldwide, fundamentally lacks the necessary protections to prevent minors from accessing potentially harmful and adult-themed content. Predators have found a place where they can exploit the absence of strict age restrictions, leaving communities like ours in a constant state of defense against these threats.

There is no foolproof mechanism to ensure that minors cannot access content that is clearly unsafe for them. Predators seek these loopholes, and as we commemorate each victory over one, another seems to emerge, preying on the unprotected youth who engage with VRChat. The cycle cannot continue.

By re-categorizing VRChat as an 18+ or at the very least M for mature platform, we can create a necessary barrier that will help safeguard minors, and inform parents of the potential mature content their children may be exposed too. VRChat should implement stricter verification processes to ensure users meet age requirements, ultimately protecting younger audiences from interacting with inappropriate content and individuals.

We urge VRChat and its developers to acknowledge these persisting issues and take immediate action by designating VRChat as an 18+ or M for Mature rated platform. This classification alteration, alongside more stringent user verification, can help deter those with harmful intentions and cultivate a safer environment for all users.
