My dog Milo died during a routine procedure under anesthesia. What I later discovered shocked me: under current Florida law, a veterinarian only has to be somewhere in the building during anesthesia — not in the room with the patient. As a retired physician who spent decades practicing anesthesiology, I don't believe that's good enough when something can go wrong in seconds. This petition asks Florida's Legislature to require that "a veterinarian be physically present in the operating room for the full duration of a pet's anesthesia."
