For years, there has been a much-needed call for transparency in the ride-hailing industry spearheaded by Uber. It is time for change. Uber riders deserve to know the full details of what they are paying for, and drivers should be aware of their fair share. Currently, there is an opacity in Uber's fare system. Often, riders aren't aware of what a considerable portion of their fare is used for. Similarly, drivers aren't given full disclosure of how their earnings are calculated. According to reports, Uber takes about 45% of each fare, but with add-on fees, that percentage can significantly increase (Business Insider, 2019).

Regulation of prices is also desperately needed to ensure stability and fairness. In some cases, during peak times or in specific areas, rates can sky-rocket due rare phenomenon known as 'price surges', impacting the affordability for many riders. We hereby call upon the relevant authorities to step in to address this unregulated space. We request legislation that requires Uber to provide clear details regarding fare breakdowns to both riders and drivers and introduce measures that regulate Uber's pricing policy. This initiative will bring about fairness and transparency in an industry that millions of people rely on daily.
