Require transparent advertising for products currently tested on animals
The Issue
Petition to: The Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP)
Consumers have the right to make informed purchasing decisions.
Today, consumers can identify many cruelty-free products through voluntary certification schemes such as the Leaping Bunny. However, there is no equivalent requirement for products that are currently tested on animals. This means consumers who wish to avoid supporting current animal testing often have no clear way of knowing when they see a product advertised.
We call on the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) to amend the UK Advertising Code to require that all advertisements for products currently tested on animals include a clear, standardised disclosure or symbol.
This requirement should apply across all advertising media covered by the UK Advertising Codes, including print, magazines, newspapers, online advertising, social media, search advertising, posters and other marketing communications.
This petition is not calling for a ban on products that are currently tested on animals. It is calling for transparency, so consumers can make informed choices based on accurate and consistent information.
Introducing a standardised disclosure would:
- Give consumers clear information at the point they see an advertisement.
Improve transparency and honesty in advertising. - Complement existing voluntary cruelty-free certifications by providing equivalent information for products that are currently tested on animals.
- Promote informed consumer choice without restricting the availability of products.
We respectfully ask CAP to consult on introducing this requirement and to amend the UK Advertising Code accordingly.
Consumers deserve transparency. If a product is currently tested on animals, that information should be made clear whenever it is advertised.
Please sign this petition if you believe consumers have the right to know whether the products advertised to them are currently tested on animals.
