The Issue

On the evening of September 22, 2025, tragedy struck our community on Nashville Road. A beloved neighbor, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident while retrieving his mail after returning from work. His untimely passing is not just a heartbreaking loss, but a stark reminder of the persistent dangers that haunt Nashville Road everday.

As a resident of this neighborhood, I have witnessed on countless occasions the perilous speeding and reckless driving that endangers everyone—pedestrians, families, and motorists alike. Nashville Road has become a hazard, where cars consistently exceed speed limits and fail to respect the safety of those who live and commute here.

It is time for the Town of Bethel to take decisive action to ensure our streets are safe. We respectfully demand the installation of effective traffic-calming measures—such as speed bumps, humps, or raised tables—along Nashville Road. These interventions have been proven effective in countless communities across the nation, reducing average vehicle speeds by 20-25% and significantly improving safety for all road users.

The implementation of these measures is vital for safeguarding our families and preserving the peace of our neighborhood. Our residents deserve the security of knowing they can safely walk, jog, cycle, or simply cross the street without fear of catastrophe.

Proven examples from municipalities of similar size show success in reducing accidents and enhancing community safety through the installation of traffic-calming infrastructures. This can and should be our reality in the Town of Bethel.

Join us in urging town officials to prioritize the well-being of our community. Your signature can help make Nashville Road a safer place for everyone. Please sign this petition to advocate for the installation of traffic-calming measures today.
