The Issue

I am deeply concerned about the safety of my 6-year-old daughter and the many children of the Watson Park neighborhood in East Braintree. Our neighborhood, which should be a safe haven for families, is currently a danger zone due to the excessive speed at which many vehicles travel.

Just recently, a child was struck while riding their bike. This incident, which is every parent's worst nightmare, highlights the urgent need for traffic calming measures to be implemented in our community. Between the yacht club, sports field, splash pad, and park, there is a significant presence of children at any given time. The current lack of speed control measures puts all of them at risk.

I am calling for the installation of speed bumps and/or 4-way stop signs throughout the Watson Park neighborhood. These measures have been proven effective in reducing vehicle speeds and enhancing pedestrian safety, especially in residential areas where children are frequently present. They are simple yet powerful tools that can transform our neighborhood into a safer place.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, traffic calming measures like speed bumps can reduce speeds by as much as 20%. Moreover, installing stop signs at key intersections would ensure that drivers must come to a complete halt, minimizing the risk of potential accidents.

East Braintree is a family-oriented community, and we need to take action to protect our children. We shouldn't have to live in fear every time our children step outside to play, ride their bikes, or walk to the park.

I urge the local authorities and community leaders to prioritize the safety of our neighborhood and its residents by implementing these necessary changes. Let's work together to ensure that the streets of Watson Park are safe for everyone.

Please sign this petition to demand the installation of traffic calming measures in the Watson Park neighborhood to safeguard our community's children. Your support can make a significant difference.
