The Issue

Living in Elmbury Estate, Carrigtwohill, is a wonderful community experience, one characterised by a warm sense of neighbourhood spirit. However, this vibrant, family-centred community is being overshadowed by the increasing problem of speeding vehicles, turning our residential streets into places of real concern. I’m reaching out with this petition because, like so many of my neighbours, I’m deeply worried about the safety of the children and people  who live here and enjoy playing, cycling and scooting around the estate.

Elmbury was built to be a safe and welcoming place for families. Every day, children are outside making friends, riding their bikes and enjoying the freedom that comes with living in a close-knit community. Sadly, the speed at which some vehicles travel through the estate means many parents no longer feel at ease letting their children play freely outside.

With Murnane & O’Shea still developing the estate, now is the ideal time to install speed ramps and other traffic-calming measures before the roads are fully completed. These simple measures would encourage drivers to slow down and help protect everyone who lives here, especially our children.

We are asking Murnane & O’Shea and Cork County Council to work together to make road safety a priority in Elmbury. As residents, we all want the same thing—a neighbourhood where our children can play safely, neighbours can walk without worry, and families can enjoy their community with peace of mind.

Please support this petition and help us make Elmbury a safer place for every child, every family and everyone who calls this estate home.
