Require thorough investigation in CSA cases
Require thorough investigation in CSA cases
The Issue
I am writing this petition with a heavy heart, burdened by personal experiences that reflect a broader, deeply distressing issue. When my child and I came forward as survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA), we faced not only the devastating betrayal by trusted authority figures but were further traumatized by a system that refused to take our voices seriously. Our experiences echo countless others, particularly when investigations conclude hastily, with only 19 days of perfunctory examination and a significant neglect of critical evidence.
CSA is an appalling crime that scars its victims for life. When children courageously step forward to disclose such abuse, they should be met with compassion, credibility, and a commitment to due diligence. Unfortunately, our current system often denies them that respect. An alarmingly brief investigation window not only undermines the gravity of these allegations but also jeopardizes the chances of achieving justice for young victims.
Statistics portray a grim reality. According to various child protection agencies, only a fraction of CSA cases are effectively resolved, while a significant number remain open or dismissed due to insufficient evidence—evidence that could have surfaced with more comprehensive investigations. The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) states that 1 in 20 children in the UK has been sexually abused, yet the trust in disclosers remains critically low, especially when systematic barriers are involved.
Due process must be a priority in CSA cases, with extended, unbiased, and thorough investigations. This involves allocating adequate resources to child protection units, training officers specifically to handle CSA cases, reviewing current investigation timelines, and ensuring that every piece of evidence is meticulously examined before a case is closed.
We owe it to our children and every survivor to believe them, protect them, and ensure they are never betrayed again—not by their abusers, nor by a system designed to safeguard them.
Stand with us in this fight for justice and reform. Sign this petition to demand that child protective services and relevant governmental bodies implement procedures that mandate comprehensive, empathy-driven investigations into CSA cases, providing survivors the validation and justice they deserve.
