Require the state to provide dyslexia therapists in public schools
Require the state to provide dyslexia therapists in public schools
The Issue
My daughter is a bright and eager learner in third grade, yet she struggles with reading. She faces difficulties not because she lacks intelligence, but because she has dyslexia. Like many other parents, I have watched my child make good grades in every subject except when it comes to reading. This is a frustration shared by countless families across our state.
Dyslexia is not uncommon; approximately 15-20% of the population has some of the symptoms of dyslexia, according to the International Dyslexia Association. However, despite its prevalence, many public schools are not equipped with the necessary resources to properly support students with dyslexia. This deficiency leaves children struggling and often feeling isolated or left behind.
Therapists who specialize in dyslexia possess the skills and training to provide the individualized instruction that these students need to succeed. By requiring the state to place certified dyslexia therapists in all public schools, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to flourish academically, regardless of their learning differences.
Currently, too many children are slipping through the cracks of our education system simply because they learn differently. We need concrete, actionable changes to rectify this widespread issue. Studies show that with the right intervention and support, students with dyslexia can thrive in their educational environments. Therefore, it is imperative to fund and provide access to skilled dyslexia therapists, enabling an equitable educational experience for all.
I urge you to join our cause and advocate for change. By signing this petition, you will help thousands of children receive the support they crucially need. Let's make sure our state acknowledges and acts upon the necessity of dyslexia therapists in public schools. Please sign to support the education and future of every dyslexic student.
