Require the NHS to scrap there 1 year Window to make a complaint

The Issue

My name is Steven Firn, and I was a patient at an NHS hospital where I received improper treatment due to a lack of knowledge and care from the staff. The negligence was confessed, and it was admitted they had failed me in upholding their duty of care. Today, I bear the painful experiences which include medical PTSD, anxiety nightmares, and flashbacks. Because of these, I'm left too scared of ever setting foot in that hospital again.

I took it upon myself to craft a complaint about the treatment I had endured. I had a resolution meeting on the 16th of June 2023 to find out what happened to my care and treatment in 2013 to 2014 where they admitted liability to Negligenge and Breached there duty of care towards me, they the told me a few days letter that the recording of the meeting failed. They have never shown me any proof of this happening and complety refuse a second meeting and told me they have done everything they can. They claimed no action could be taken against mistakes that caused such distress in my life because my complaint had crossed the 1-year limit set by NHS.

In the United Kingdom, around 1 in 10 adults experiences a mental health problem partially because of experiences related to medical negligence and poor treatment (source: Mental Health Foundation). The current 1 year cut-off point for complaints leaves many victims of medical negligence without any chance to seek justice or even an apology.

It is with this remembrance of my pain and in light of the struggles of many others that I'm creating this petition to ask the NHS to reform its complaints procedure and scrap the complaint period beyond the current year limit. It is a much-needed change. No other victim of medical negligence should have to suffer in silence because they were unaware of the time limit to raise their complaint or simply not emotionally ready yet.
