I believe children and teens should not be able to stumble onto explicit content so easily, and adults deserve more safeguards to protect their mental and emotional well-being.

The digital age has brought with it numerous advancements, but it has also made explicit adult content more accessible to people of all ages, particularly children and teenagers. This easy access poses serious risks, from affecting mental health to altering perceptions of relationships and intimacy at a critical age of development. Studies show that exposure to pornographic content can lead to addiction, distorted views on sexuality, and difficulties in forming healthy relationships.

Current regulations are insufficient. Websites offering adult content often lack strict age verification methods, making it incredibly easy for minors to access material that can be harmful. Many of these sites only require a click to confirm age, which is far from being a reliable safeguard.

We need to implement stronger age verification methods, such as requiring recognized ID for age checks. Additionally, stricter content monitoring is essential to ensure that illegal and harmful content is not disseminated. Default internet filters should be mandatory, requiring users to opt-out if they choose to access adult websites, rather than the current system which allows unrestricted access unless changed by the user.

Countries like the UK and France are already leading the way by discussing legislation aimed at enforcing age verification and restricting access. It’s time we follow their lead and prioritize the protection of our young people and the health of our society as a whole.
