Require stringent monitoring and shutdown of illegal Airbnbs
The Issue
The residents of Begonia St. and surrounding areas in Atlantic Beach are fed up. Our once close-knit and peaceful neighborhood has been disrupted by a constant influx of unvetted strangers coming and going at all hours of the day and night. This is not because of personal choices or individual property decisions, but due to a property operating illegally as an Airbnb in defiance of city code. This illegal operation not only undermines the safety and security of our community but also breaches the city’s regulations which were put in place to protect our neighbors.
Despite local codes that clearly restrict and outlaw short-term rentals in this residential area, the Airbnb on Begonia St. continues to operate, disregarding the law and the peace of our community. It is time for the Atlantic Beach Code Enforcement to take decisive action to diligently monitor and shut down all illegal Airbnbs in the area, starting with this egregious violator. The continuous disturbance and disruption need to be addressed immediately.
We call upon the Code Enforcement Department to levy substantial fines on the property owners operating this illegal establishment and ensure taxes owed from past illegal operations are collected. It's imperative for the enforcement officials to uphold city code integrity and take all necessary measures to restore safety and order in our neighborhood.
This is not just about Begonia St. but about safeguarding all Atlantic Beach neighborhoods and ensuring they remain safe, secure, and lawful. By signing this petition, you are advocating for a firm and consistent application of the law, urging the authorities to act swiftly and decisively against illegal activities that threaten our community's well-being. Please join us in demanding Atlantic Beach Code Enforcement to do what is right for the residents of Atlantic Beach.
