The Issue

The constant sound of gunfire from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s firing range has become unbearable for residents living around the intersection of Interstate 55 and Gasconade Street. Our neighborhood now echoes with the loud eruptions of rapid, constant gunshots spraying from as early as 7 AM to as late as 9 PM. We cannot enjoy our yards, porches, or even find solace within our homes without the relentless barrage of noise. It disrupts our tranquility, our peace of mind, and our quality of life.

It is critical that the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department take immediate action to mitigate this noise pollution by installing proper soundproofing at their firing range. Not only is it possible, but it is a necessary step to fulfill their duty to be responsible neighbors and to respect the community they serve.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), exposure to loud noises can affect mental and physical health, leading to stress, anxiety, and even hearing loss over time. The constant percussion of gunshots is more than a mere nuisance; it poses a genuine health risk to those within earshot.

Soundproofing solutions are available, affordable, and effective. Many firing ranges across the nation have successfully implemented such measures to balance training needs with community peace. By insulating their facilities, the St. Louis police can continue their essential training operations without impairing the well-being of residents.

Furthermore, quieter neighborhoods will enhance local property values and foster a more harmonious environment for all. As tax-paying citizens, residents deserve the peace and tranquility of enjoying their homes without the disruption of incessant noise.

Join us in demanding that the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department prioritize the installation of soundproofing measures at their firing range. Your signature can help ensure that this community’s voice is heard, pushing towards a quieter and healthier neighborhood for everyone.

Sign this petition today to bring much-needed peace back to our homes.
