Every morning, I walk my two children to school along a busy road with cars rushing by at high speeds. The only option is to walk in the tall grass, dodging hazards, or risk our safety by walking close to the fast-moving traffic. This is not just our story—many families in Rossville face the same unsafe conditions while attempting to ensure their children get to school.

The lack of sidewalks near our schools poses a significant risk to the safety of students, parents, and school staff. According to data from the Federal Highway Administration, pedestrian fatalities have increased by 20% over the past decade in areas without sidewalks. Our children deserve better. They deserve a safe and secure route to their education.

Sidewalks are a crucial element of road safety. By installing sidewalks around the schools in Rossville, we can protect our children from harm and also encourage walking to school, which has numerous health benefits. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) highlights walking as a great form of physical activity for children, which can lead to healthier lifestyles and improved academic performance.

Building sidewalks is an achievable solution that starts with community support. We urge the local government to prioritize and allocate resources for implementing sidewalks in all school areas. Not only does this improve safety, but it also enhances our community’s living standards and increases property values.

We propose an initial task force made up of school representatives, parents, local officials, and transportation experts to conduct an assessment and develop a plan to install sidewalks. Let's act now to prevent future accidents and protect our children. This is about safeguarding our community’s future—our young children.

Please join me in calling for the essential construction of sidewalks around all schools in Rossville by signing this petition. Together, we can make our community a safer, healthier place for everyone.
