Require Senator Mitch McConnell to Prove He's Fit to Serve
The Issue
For 80 days, Kentuckians have not seen or heard directly from their own senator. Mitch McConnell was hospitalized in mid-June, released from a rehabilitation facility in early August, and since then his office has gone almost completely silent. In that time, he has missed roughly 60 votes in the U.S. Senate, on issues ranging from war powers to housing policy to a Cabinet confirmation. Every one of those votes mattered to someone, and every one of them was cast without him.
His staff has released only two photos since he vanished from public view, both showing him smiling beside his wife but offering no real information about his health or his ability to do the job. Even Kentucky's own governor says he has gotten no direct word from McConnell in over two and a half months, while a security detail guards the senator's Washington home and his aides keep speaking on his behalf instead of letting him speak for himself.
The Senate is currently split by one of the narrowest margins in recent memory, which means a single missing vote can change outcomes for millions of people. Kentucky voters, and the country, deserve to know whether the senator representing them is actually able to do the job he was elected to do. That isn't a partisan question. It's basic accountability.
Senator McConnell's office should provide clear, direct proof of his health and capacity to serve, on a real timeline, not vague statements read by staff. Sign this petition to demand the transparency Kentucky voters are owed.
