Require Schools to protectthe children who are LGBTQIA+ and Sexual Assault survivors
The Issue
I keep coming back to the same feeling: we need to see each other clearly, and we need to bring real light to what so many people are forced to carry in silence. When I say I need sunshine, I am talking about safety, honesty, and the basic dignity of being able to exist without fear. The hashtags around this message make it plain that sexual assault and the safety of LGBTQ people are not abstract issues. They are real, urgent, and deeply human.
Too many survivors are left feeling unseen, unheard, or blamed, and too many LGBTQ students and community members are made even more vulnerable by systems that do not protect them the way they should. Awareness matters, but awareness by itself is not enough. People need clear reporting options, trauma-informed support, and prevention efforts that actually speak to the realities LGBTQ people face. Silence protects harm, not people.
That is why I am calling on schools to improve sexual assault prevention and reporting in ways that are inclusive, accessible, and taken seriously. Schools should provide clear education about consent, confidential ways to report harm, and support systems that do not leave survivors to figure everything out alone. They should also make sure LGBTQ students know they will be treated with dignity and believed when they come forward.
If you believe people deserve more than empty words about safety, please sign this petition. Help demand systems that do more than react after harm is done. Help bring real protection, real support, and real sunshine to people who have been left in the dark for far too long.
