Require school zone and crossing guard at Bates Ave and Estes Road
The Issue
Every morning and afternoon, my son, along with many other children from our neighborhood, navigates the busy intersection at Bates Ave and Estes Road in Eustis, FL, just to get to school. This intersection, unfortunately, lacks the necessary safety measures, making it a perilous route for our young ones to travel. As a parent, I worry every day about the safety of my child and the other children in our community.
Currently, there is neither a designated school zone nor a crossing guard at this critical junction. This lack of essential safety precautions puts our children at risk of accidents as they cross this busy road to reach school. Statistics show that school zones significantly decrease the likelihood of vehicular accidents involving children. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, areas with designated school speed limits and crossing guards are notably effective in reducing pedestrian injuries.
The City of Eustis must take immediate action to protect its young residents by establishing a school zone and providing a crossing guard at the intersection of Bates Ave and Estes Road. This measure will ensure that children can navigate their route to school safely, without constant fear of accidents. It will also give peace of mind to all parents who are concerned about their children's safety.
Creating a safe passage to school is of utmost importance. With a simple implementation, such as a crosswalk, adequate signage, and a crossing guard, we can significantly improve the safety and well-being of our community's children.
I urge the city officials in Eustis to prioritize the safety of our children and provide the necessary resources to make this a safer route for all.
