The Issue

PART 1 - I’ve been wrongfully targeted by Sandy Springs Police  I went to a park in Sandy Springs to walk, explore, and enjoy my time, and instead I ended up surrounded by officers. I kept asking what was going on, and nobody would tell me. I was not being loud, not being fussy, not causing a scene. I was complying because I refused to become the next Black person unjustifiably killed over a situation that never should have escalated in the first place.

What happened to me should scare all of us. If police can swarm someone, take their license back to the car, search into who they are, and order them to leave while giving no real explanation, then nobody in our community can feel secure doing something as basic as being in a public park. When that kind of silence and force falls hardest on Black residents, it stops feeling random and starts feeling like the same over-policing we keep being told is not happening.

I am calling on Sandy Springs city leaders and the Sandy Springs Police Department to require officers to give people a clear written reason for any stop, search, detention, or order to leave a public space. If there is an investigation, say what authority is being used and what the person is actually being accused of doing. If there is no lawful reason, the stop should end immediately. I am also requesting Sandy Springs Police Department to release Dash cam video, flock video, and body camera footage for all cases that require transparency. Accountability cannot depend on somebody going viral just to get basic answers.

I am asking you to sign because this is bigger than one humiliating night in one park. We need a real policy that protects people before these encounters escalate, not apologies after the fact. Sign this petition if you believe nobody should be surrounded, searched, and dismissed without a real justification.
