Petition updateRequire Prior Notification for Aerial and Ground Pesticide Application

Ongoing Concerns Following May 31st Aerial Pesticide Exposure Incident

The H20 ProjectCape Charles, VA, United States

I wanted to provide an update regarding my May 31st inhalation incident and the continued concerns surrounding aerial pesticide applications without prior notification.

On May 31st, while I was out walking my dogs near my residence, a crop duster aircraft unexpectedly arrived and began spraying nearby fields along the road. There was no advance notice or opportunity to avoid the area, and I was exposed while outside.

One of the biggest challenges since this incident has been the difficulty of affording proper testing to document potential exposure. The specialized testing needed to better understand what I may have been exposed to is expensive, making it challenging to obtain the answers and documentation needed.

I have been working with a doctor regarding my ongoing health concerns. I have shared that I have noticed a pattern where periods of significant cognitive fogginess and feelings of overwhelm seem to return when the crop duster is nearby. It may be a coincidence, but I have become much more aware of the aircraft and its presence since the initial incident.

Over the past several months, I have seen the plane return and have heard it multiple times. Since the May 31st exposure, I am much more attuned to the sound of the aircraft and have continued documenting what I observe. I recently captured additional footage showing the crop duster operating again in the area, including activity near Route 13 and the vicinity of Kiptopeke Elementary during summer school.

I am sharing this footage to continue documenting the importance of prior notification for aerial pesticide applications. Residents should have the ability to make informed decisions about being outdoors and take reasonable precautions when spraying is occurring nearby.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this petition, shared information, and helped bring attention to the need for greater transparency and protections for communities.

I continued filming after the initial screen grab to document the proximity of the aircraft activity to the surrounding area, including the nearby school location.
