Just Found Out I Was Sprayed with Eluvium Fungicide on 5/31/26

I wanted to share a major update on what happened to me and my family.   On May 31, 2026, I (and likely others in the area) was directly exposed to an aerial pesticide spray without any prior warning or notification. I have now confirmed through official correspondence from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services that the chemical used was Eluvium Fungicide.

About Eluvium Fungicide:

Eluvium is a broad-spectrum foliar fungicide manufactured by Innvictis Crop Care. Its active ingredient is Chlorothalonil (6 lbs/gal). It is commonly used in commercial agriculture to protect crops like potatoes, peanuts, asparagus, and blueberries from diseases such as blight, leaf spot, and rust.

Safety Instructions Ignored
The product labeling and safety guidelines clearly state that people should wait at least 12 hours before entering a site that has been sprayed. Instead, I was hit directly by the aerial spray mist with zero warning. My health and safety  and that of anyone else in the area  were apparently not considered.

Health Effects of Inhalation and Direct Exposure
Chlorothalonil is a strong irritant. According to safety data: Respiratory issues: Airway irritation (dry/sore throat, severe coughing, sneezing, burning in nose/throat), shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness, and increased mucus production. 
Other effects: Severe eye irritation (redness, tearing, stinging, blurred vision), skin irritation or allergic reactions (rash, itching), and potential systemic symptoms if absorbed (headaches, dizziness, nausea, fatigue).

I am still experiencing symptoms and am deeply concerned about both short- and long-term health impacts. This incident raises serious questions about notification protocols, aerial application safety, and the protection of nearby residents and families. No one should be involuntarily exposed to these chemicals without warning...especially when re-entry restrictions exist for a reason.
