I am writing this petition based on my personal experience with the recent Pearson Edexcel Mathematics B iGCSE examinations, which were extraordinarily challenging compared to exams from previous years. I have consistently scored near full marks on past papers and have always had ample time left to review my answers. Thus, when I found myself unable to complete even two-thirds of Paper 1 and encountered the overwhelming complexity of Paper 2, it felt both shocking and deeply unfair.

This year's papers were notoriously difficult, not just for me but for many students who have dedicated countless hours to studying and preparing based on past trends and paper difficulties. The sudden increase in difficulty deviates from the norm, catching students off-guard and potentially jeopardizing their grades and future opportunities. The stress and pressure this unexpected challenge has placed on us students cannot be understated.

In order to maintain fairness and ensure that the results reflect students' true capabilities and preparation, it is imperative for Pearson Edexcel to reconsider and lower the grade boundaries this year. By doing so, Pearson Edexcel can uphold the integrity of their exam system and support the hard work of students who have been adversely affected by this unforeseen, heightened difficulty level.

Other examination boards have revised grade boundaries in the past in response to similar situations, acknowledging the need for fairness and balance. As a candidate who has always performed exceptionally well in mathematics, the discrepancy in difficulty level has created undue stress and fear of not achieving the grades needed for my academic future.

We urge Pearson Edexcel to take immediate action to adjust the grade boundaries for the Mathematics B iGCSE examinations of this year. This decision should be based on maintaining parity with previous years' results, ensuring that students are judged on a comparable standard.
